Nurnberg is the second largest city of Bavaria after Munich. The city was established in the 11th century. Back then it was a key commercial trade centre, being situated on the road that linked the Roman Empire with the North of Europe. Later, in the 15th and 16th century, Nurnberg was the centre of the German renaissance, contributing with a lot of works to the development of astronomy for example.

The city of Nurnberg has many historical attractions, which will entertain anyone. The Nurnberg Castle is a great place to visit, and there are tours in many different languages including English. The old town is a great place to see the unique architecture of Bavaria. The old city wall is also well worth a visit, though parts of the original Nurnberg Wall disappeared. The city moat, though it was never filled with water, still exists and it is two kilometer long.

The most notable places one has to visit in Nurnberg are:

The Toy Museum; Nurnberg is one of the most well known toy producers, and this museum situated on Karlstrasse 13-15, is one of the most well known tourist attractions of the city. The museum has plenty of hand made toys dating back to medieval times. There are also metal toys and modern toys and toy houses. The museum is quite big, having a total of three floors, so there are lots of things to visit inside.

Germanic National Museum is the biggest museum of German art and culture containing art works from all times as well as a library. On Wednesdays after 6 PM entrance is free.

Albrecht Durer House is one of Nurnberg’s most visited tourist attraction. The building is the only gothic one that still exists in town. The house was built in the 15th century and it is very well preserved.

The Castle - Kaiserburg is the oldest building in the city. It was the residency of German Kings from 1050 to 1571. Inside the castle there is a museum which contains antique weapons and armors.

For those who just pass by in the city of Nurnberg, and do not have the time to visit the museum, a walk around Pegnitz River is something that will give a good sense of what the city looks like.

Overall, Nurnberg is a city that is best visited in December, when there are plenty of Christmas festivals, and the buildings are covered by snow.
